Accepting a Sunnova Solar System? What a Quality Inspector Verifies Before Sign-Off

Because installers skip the checks that only matter once the system is live. Check #1: Communication wiring and settings—the part everyone skips

Most installers are good at pulling cable. Very few are good at the communication layer. Here's where I'm glad to pay for certainty. In the spring of 2024, we had two projects competing for installer availability. One quote came in $300 cheaper but the crew couldn't commit to a date. The other quote was slightly higher, and the installer guaranteed a four-day window. We went with the cheaper one because, honestly, the pressure to trim costs was real. The installer delayed the project by six weeks. The customer's PV system was generating, but the meter wasn't approved for export, so excess energy went nowhere. To be fair, a clean acceptance review doesn't guarantee zero problems. Equipment fails. Parts have defects. But in my experience, a sound installation turns equipment failures into rare, unpredictable events. The alternative is a predictably bad outcome that you could have caught.
